Low
tax rates
Since 1.1.2004 Slovakia has had a 19% uniform flat tax rate in
force. Comparing this to tax rates elsewhere, Slovakia has the lowest
tax rate of all the countries of the EU and OECD.
Low
labour costs
The average cost of labour in Slovakia, for the same level of
productivity, is 40% lower than that of the Czech Republic, Hungary
and Poland, and 6.5 times lower than the European Union average. But
it is not only low labour costs that make Slovakia an attractive
country; the education level of its workforce plays a role as well.
Up to 87.6% of Slovak citizens are educated to university or
secondary level.
An
industrial
tradition
Slovakia is building on a mature industrial tradition in the
sectors of automobile manufacturing, electro-technical engineering,
mechanical engineering, and the woodworking industry, and at the same
time offers excellent new opportunities in the information technology
and strategic services sectors.
Strategic
aspects
Geographically, Slovakia bridges western and eastern Europe, with
the combined market potential of over 350 million people. Several
principal transport routes, oil and gas pipelines cross the territory
of Slovakia.
In
touch with the world economy
Slovakia is a member of the OECD and WTO. In 2004 it became a
fully-fledged member of the EU and NATO. 91% of Slovak exports go to
countries in the OECD.
