2011/03 Changes to claims following the end of maternity or parental leave
The Amendment to the Labour Code transposing Directive 2002/73/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council came into effect as of April 1, 2011. Changes relate, in particular, to the area of fundamental principles, returning to a job following parental or maternity leave, and the establishment of the European Council of Employment.

2011/03 Changes to the judiciary
In its programme declaration the current government announced several legislative changes to the judicial system, intended, in particular, to achieve greater neutrality, to increase the openness of the courts and allow public control of them, and to improve the effectiveness of, and strengthen trust in, the judiciary. Changes also include an Amendment to the Act on Judges and Assessors.

2011/03 Implementing international sanctions
So far, 12 multilateral treaties and agreements addressing various aspects of terrorism and measures to prevent and suppress terrorism have been concluded worldwide. In the Slovak Republic, the issue in question has been regulated by Act No. 460/2002 Coll., which needed amending. As a result, a new Act on Implementing International Sanctions has been approved by Parliament.

2011/03 Amendment to the Act on State Aid
According to current law, unlawfully provided state aid can only be reclaimed in a civil proceeding, which means that infringed market conditions and competition are not corrected with sufficient speed. The Amendment to the Act on State Aid reforms the mechanism for returning unlawfully provided state aid by determining that a European Commission decision on unlawful state aid represents a direct enforcement title. The Execution Code has also been amended to reflect these changes.

2011/03 Amendment to the Act on Emission Quotas Trading
The Act on Emission Quotas Trading has been amended for several reasons, in particular due to the need to transpose Directive 2008/101/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council which aims to include the activities of the aviation industry into the greenhouse gas emission quotas trading system within the EU. The amendment reflects the coming into force of the Kyoto Protocol and also specifies measures concerning the reporting of the emission of greenhouse gases.

2011/03 Being prepared in Government – Amendment to the Criminal Act and Criminal Code
The proposed Amendment to the Criminal Code and Criminal Act stems from particular articles of the programme declaration of the government. It also contains several measures that aim to speed up criminal proceedings, narrow room for obstruction by defendants, and improve opportunities for tackling serious crimes; it also deals with the issue of criminal sanctions applying to illegal construction, damage to cultural sights, as well as the criminal responsibility of public officers.
